Guilty plea as ‘expert’ opinion withdrawn’
A COMPANY finance director was today handed a hefty fine after he admitted travelling at 102mph on a road in Devon.
Plymouth Magistrates Court heard how Simon Vardigans, a director at Copy Nation Limited, was clocked by an LTI 20.20 in a 70mph zone on the A38 in Plymouth in October 2007.
Vardigans, of Chiswick, London had been due to plead not guilty to the offence and had appointed defence expert Dr Michael Clark to provide a report.
But Vardigans changed his plea to guilty at the last moment and Dr Clark’s report was withdrawn from the case.
RSS’s Legal Support Manager Steve Langdon provided an expert report for the prosecution.
The director was awarded six penalty points and fined £1250. He was also ordered to pay costs of £2,050, of which £1300 was awarded to RSS
